2. Cutter Suction Dredger Description
The Cutter Suction Dredger of steel construction , the non self-propelled, dismountable type, is able to berth and dredge at any waters both in the coastal area and inland rivers.
The dredger can also be designed to self-propelled according to customers’ requirement.
The dredging ship hull consists of a main pontoon and two side pontoons which is to be easy to dismantle for transportation by road, rail or water, and is be easy to reassemble at project site. The engines and dredge pump are located in the center pontoon. Two side pontoons serve as fuel bunkers, ballast tanks and storage tanks.
The dredger is powered by diesel engines. The main diesel engine drive the dredge pump and the auxiliary engine is to drive hydraulic system, including cutter, swing and ladder winches, anchor winches and the spud rams etc.
3. Cutter Suction Dredger features
1.The cutter suction dredger could work for full time in A/B type sheltered sailing area and inland waterways, lakes and reservoirs because of its high terrain adaptability. This dredger can be used for sand dredger,.
2. The cutter suction dredger is of dis-mountable designing and structure, which makes it easy to disassembling and transportation by road. After simple on-site assembling and commissioning, the cutter suction dredger will be put into use as dredging equipment.
3. The excavating and discharging processes are completed one time and without help of other machines and boats, so the project operating cost will be brought down dramatically.
4. Cutter suction dredgers Application and Advantages
1). Application
Cutter Suction Dredgers are highly versatile and efficient stationary dredgers, primarily used for excavation and reclamation projects involving hard or compacted materials. Their typical applications include: Waterway Infrastructure: Widening and deepening navigation channels, ports, harbors, and approach routes to accommodate larger vessels. Land Reclamation: Extracting seabed or riverbed material to create new land for industrial, commercial, or residential development.
Mining Operations: Serving as a primary excavation tool for mining valuable minerals (e.g., tin, gold, sand, gravel) from underwater deposits.
Pipeline and Cable Trenching: Pre-cutting trenches on the seabed for the installation of pipelines, cables, and outfalls. Environmental Remediation:
Precisely removing contaminated sediments from riverbeds, lakes, or industrial ponds for environmental cleanup.
2). Key Advantages
Cutter Suction Dredgers offer several distinct operational and economic advantages:
High Efficiency in Hard Materials: The powerful rotating cutter head at the suction inlet is specifically designed to break up stiff clays, compacted sand, gravel, and even soft rock, which are challenging for other dredger types
Continuous Operation: They operate on a continuous pumping principle, ensuring steady production rates with fewer interruptions compared to cyclical dredgers like grab or backhoe dredgers.
Long-Distance Pumping Capability: Equipped with powerful in-board pumps, CSDs can transport dredged slurry over considerable distances (several kilometers) through pipelines to the disposal site, reducing the need for intermediary transport.
