4.Distribution of placer gold deposits in Mongolia
Mongolia's placer gold deposits are mainly distributed along its northern border, in the western basin bordering China, and in regions such as the Altai, Khövsgöl, and southern Mongolia. Specifically:
The North Khentii placer gold belt is the most important distribution area, including the Zaamar and YorooGol mining areas, with gold-bearing layers primarily located in alluvial gravel layers.
The Bayankhongor placer gold belt also has large-scale deposits, such as the Jargalant deposit group.
The Hangayn gold belt is located in the west, including the UlynGol and Urd Tamir catchment basins, with placer gold deposits occurring in the upstream areas of Zun Sodoiyn Am and Sharhad.
These deposits are mostly associated with rivers, riverbeds, and alluvial plains, with gold grains hosted in gravel layers.
II. Influencing Factors
Geological Characteristics: Gold mineralization is associated with copper, molybdenum, and other mineralizations. Placer gold deposits are mainly hosted in terrigenous clastic sandstones, schists, and Permian terrigenous clastic rocks and volcanic sedimentary rocks.
Deposit Types: Vein deposits (such as Narantolgoi and Bumbat) have high gold grades (5.7-746 g/t), while mineralized zone deposits (such as the Boroo deposit) have gold grades of 0.1-30 g/t.
